Speed dating is a form of group dating that originated many many years ago but that came the attention of the mainstream media when the Internet began in the early nineties. In fact it was one of the first ways that the Internet was taken advantage of to connect otherwise disconnected people that would otherwise never meet – always a good thing!
What about speed dating events for Christians?
There are quite a number of organisations and websites where you can find speed dating just for single Christians. Google ‘Christian speed dating’ and tag on your location eg. ‘London UK’ and you should find something near you. For now check out this site; speeddater.co.uk – Christian speed dating events
The history of speed dating
Speed dating events go back years and years in terms of matchmaking events that people have held traditionally for their families and friends, but the more modern ‘musical’ chairs’ type scenario is a more recent idea though I have no doubt there have been many events and parties organised decades ago for singles that involved 5 minute talk time and then swapping to the next person in the room. The idea of matchmaking in this way with short ice-breakers is as old as the hills. But if you want to read about the full history of the modern ‘Internet’ version of the speed date event check out wikipedia’s page on the subject here.
